Hello everyone, I hath returned.
Noting my absence from the blog since my mid-December return from Sin City there'll be no prizes for guessing how Vegas went. It wasn't good.
I'll spare you the gory details but suffice to say, Lady Luck went for many a wander when I sat down to play the ol' poker in the ol' US of A last year. In fact, despite just one day when the Poker Gods hung the tantalising fruit just inches from my face, the cards dealt were simply atrocious from day one. So much so, in fact, that I reduced my hours of play from an expected 140 or so to a measly 87. Villains were rewarded with morale-sapping regularity; draws were gifted to my adversaries relentlessly while I saw arrows missing targets as if a mad blind lunatic were drawing the bow. Card-dead sessions were the agonising norm and I left the place thoroughly deflated.
Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there. I have felt so at odds with the game that I've only played two live sessions since my return. One two hour session at The Vic where normal service was well and truly restored and a two hour debacle at The Hippodrome where my exit hand saw my villain hit his one outer as his straight flush was delivered on the river with aplomb making my ace-high flush crumble into dust. And he drew to this with the most ridiculous odds by the way!
...And so it leaves me as you find me; kind of jaded by the game now but knowing that fish still abound in the river. I'll go back to it at some point but it does means, of course, that after barely breaking even, my 4-month business has had to come to an end. Poker will be restored to its former place in my life: a recreational game to be played occasionally at weekends and more regularly as results pick up and my love for the game returns. Thankfully, I'll always know that in the long-term and against most players, I'll have the edge.
Until then, I need to find me a "proper" job and return to the real world where people actually work for a living. Therefore, this - people - is where we part ways.
Thanks for your interest in my endeavours.
It's onwards and upwards as always!!
